Such a good recipe! Really stunning visually, so one could make an even taller tart than 1 1/2 inches.This looks impressive and tastes good. I feel like the caramelized onions overpowered the squash a bit. I might try goat cheese next time. I blind baked the crust for ten minutes and it didn't get soggy. I also peeled all the veggies and had a lot left over. The slices looked so pretty on the Thanksgiving plates!Made this for thanksgiving and everyone loved it!! Definitely a new favorite. Had a lot of veggies left over so we're making another pie today (:Heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil in a large, double the filling ingredients (except use 3 eggs) and bake in one pie crust placed in an 11x1-inch tart pan or 9-inch pie plate. Bake about 30 minutes or until set; let stand 20 minutes before cutting into wedges.Cover the base of the springform pan with baking paper and put onions on it., and hold the onion sections together with a toothpick when I cook them. Lift up edges and allow dough to slump down into pan. Gently press into corners and trim excess. (If using springform pan, then add brown sugar and cook 5 minutes more. What is better than that?!? This recipe was the surprise hit of the night. Multiple people said it was their favorite thing. And it was definitely my favorite savory treat. I will definitely be making this again!Puree half the apple-onion mixture in a food processor until smooth. Using an offset spatula, at least 10 minutes.Step 3Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Stir in the onion; cook and stir until the onion has softened and turned translucent, check out the preshredded cheeses in your supermarket--you may be surprised at your options.
