Fantastic cake - I will never need another choc cake recipe ! I used it for my daughters birthday cake which I iced traditionally, they bake anywhere from 15-17 minutes 🙂We had a family birthday party last weekend and I was asked to bring the cake. Well…that's not exactly accurate. I got the email about having a family party and immediately started thinking about cake flavors. I came up with a few different options and printed the recipes before Mike asked me: “Were you even asked to bring a cake?” Minor details! I decided on the dark chocolate cake you see here and emailed my mother-in-law saying “I'd be happy to bring a birthday cake if you'd like.” (In my head I was thinking “Pleeeeease let me bring a cake because now I'm sold on this cake and I have to make it and I should definitely not be left alone with a whole cake at our house!”).And let me tell you, I did use their dark cocoa powder. Sometime I want to do a blind taste test with different ingredients to see how noticeable the difference is.We think this recipe should work ok for cupcakes but we haven't tested it so couldn't say how many it would make.. Bake for about 20 mins at the same oven temp. Best of luck! Or you could try our Smartie cupcakes instead?, Pro tip: Dust chocolate chips in flour before you add them to the batter. This light flour coating helps prevent the chocolate chips from sinking to the bottom of the cake when baking.

    ⅔ cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, I made this cake and followed the instrucruins and measurements of ingredients correctly but my cake was flatter than expected. Is there a way I could make the cakes raise more without effecting the amazing taste? ThanksThe consistency of the cake was good, we have not tested this recipe with rice flour.     Have you ever tried the chocolate cake recipe found on the back of the label of Nestlé cocoa? I gave it a try and the cake didn't actually have the 'shortened' texture you can see in the picture below (I did not expect it as well); rather it had a spongy texture.1/4 tsp cream of tartar***, I cant find any carnation caramel in our area. Let us know how you get on!Grease and flour a medium sized circular cake pan., as always best to make as fresh as possible - but the iced cake will keep quite happily for 2-3 days in an airtight container. Or you can freeze the sponges and then ice it when you need it. Happy Baking!

I didnt put the fudge in the middle as it had so much decoration on it I thought it would be sweet enough - it worked beautifullySuper easy fab chocolate cake!
